Question of the Day: Why did you roll a paladin?

So, why did you roll a paladin? Were you suckered into it by Blizzard's whole: "Melee Healer" type of thing it threw at you during release (Y'know, where they made it sound like DPS & Tanking was the Paladins main abilities as opposed to being a Main Healer/Support). Were you impressed with Arthas, Uther, and the sort and wanted to bring down righteous fury upon the legions of scourge? Were you that Horde guy who said "Man, Paladins are overpowered... I want to try that out." or were you the Horde guy who said "Okay... so these guys rock at a lot of stuff... their DPS sucks, but that's okay."

I am the final option. I rolled a paladin in order to support my guild, I knew we needed paladins, and I wanted to check out the Blood Elves anyway. I wasn't sure if it was going to become my main, but it eventually did. I went Holy simply because I've never tried a 'healing' spec before, I've always been DPS or on my other Paladin (He was a 40ish something when I started playing him, it was a friend's character) as a Prot. In general I didn't know what to expect, I didn't know what was overpowered, what the 'good' specs were or anything. I just went in there to have some fun and decided that Tanks/Healers were the hardest thing to find in most groups and specced for both accordingly.

So, how did you decide upon being a Paladin?

Always a nice question to ask to know just why some people roll or messing up your class.

I started to play WoW 3 days after Burning Crusade release, i had heard about WoW a little while before that and was gonna give it a go. The Character that was my 2 choices were either a Warrior or Paladin i like both kinda characters.. Melee.

Starting new and reading liked the idea of been a Holy Warrior and Melee fighter. Been able to heal was appealing as i can do support if needed so it meant i was needed in other things if be. I didn't want to be of Alliance side, i felt been evil was better and appealing. Reading about new Blood Elves starting WoW was appealing as it said they were tied to arcane magic and kinda intoxicated to magic effects. I like that about them, so appealed to me.

So catering to my dark side and instint, and not wanting to be Alliance i went Evil Blood Elf and since BE didn't have Warriors i went with my other choice of Paladin. Also been in a new class seemed great also starting out in WoW. I've been a Paladin since then. That was 4 months ago and i've stuck with been a Paladin even with the identified problems of the class, i've stuck with it.

I also started WoW after BC was released. I spent a month or two playing with a bunch of different toons but my Fiancee wanted me to focus on only one and get it up to 70 as quickly as possible so I could play with him.

For the race to 70 I knew that I needed something that could solo well, was fairly resilliant and not-too-squishy. Paladin and Warrior were the only plate wearers.. and Paladin seemed more fun than a Warrior.

AND I saw a movie about Paladin AOE clearing Scarlet Monestary and I was hooked.

Tatia was rolled on March 13 and will probably hit level 55 tonight. Considering I have a life outside of Wow, I think that's respectable progress.

Rolled a Dwarf Paladin in Beta... Rolled a Dwarf Paladin day one of live.
- "the sort and wanted to bring down righteous fury upon the legions of scourge."
Been Ret since day one and never considered changing. At one point in MC/BWL progression I had as many as 21 points in holy. Basically I've always like the idea of "smiting the wicked" with my mighty hammer. Blizzards vision of paladins seems to fall into more of the "Cleric" than the paladin to me.

Well Paladins DO have a bit of a DPS boost on Undead & Demon killing. I mean, retribution has 'Crusade', but it'd be cool to see a talent that gives you +5% against Undead/Demons only and with that an added 5% crit chance or something for 5 points or something... I'd assume it would wtfpwn in Outland and kind of reflect nicely towards the whole defeaters of evil thing.

I did it because Holy Damage has no resistance. I thought if I could crank up the output of Holy Damage I could compete with the mitigated damage of other normal damage types. So far I think i'm doing well and I am unable to see how I won't be able to compete for DPS slots. It is my goal to refute this common argument.

Ruprecht, a Shockadin actually has a LOT more DPS output then you'd expect. As Holy in Shockadin gear (no points in retribution) I tear through stuff like nothing. I highly recommend aiming for the Earthfury looking set, it's mail, but the +crit/INT/STA/etc. makes it EXTREMELY awesome for DPSing with Holy Shock, Exorcisms, etc.

The basic goal is to wtfpwn stuff as quick as you can before they squish you because you're wearing mail.

I rolled a Dwarf Paladin on launch day and leveled him to 60. I then started to PvP with him, and while I would own anyone that would fight to the death, anyone that decided to run, would live.

This was before Hammer of Wrath, and other ranged abilities, such as Holy Shock & Avengers Shield.

I grew tired of chasing people and made a Mage. I like that I can kill any runners, and even become the runner myself with a simple Blink + Invis.

My Paladin is only used for VC run-throughs now. I might pick him up again someday, but for now it's strictly my Mage & Druid.

I rolled a pally because I was deluded/deceived into thinking they could tank. I was GM for a small guild that was gearing up to attempt karazhan, and we needed a solid tank who could be depended upon to NOT turn into a prima donna.

I found, to my chagrin, that paladins can tank in an amazing, almost ungodly fashion. I started doing speed Black Morass attunements with guildies and speed Shattered halls runs... it was beautiful. However, I say that I found this "to my chagrin" because, after tanking like an absolute machine for 60+ levels, I found that I was barely able to tank the beginning areas of karazhan... Further reading clued me into the fact that pally tanking would only go downhill from there.

Just prior to patch 2.1 my guild disintegrated, and my g/f and I rerolled on the same server as a friend. Just so happens that this friend was in PoTP (before burning out). Kind of odd since I've read some of your blog before and now I find I'm on your server giving you links to nifty office space ripoffs. =)

Well, I kind of loved Blood Elves since Warcraft 3, and I want to try out a tank. So, after reading all the "Paladins are a tank/healer hybrid in the same way as a warrior is a dps/tanking hybrid" paladin seemed like a good choice.
It was actually only inteded to give me another alt, but about two months later I was at level 70 with my new main. And I was prot all the way from level 24.
